Daniel Dubois knocked out Joshua in September at Wembley Stadium in a passing of the torch while several fresh faces are chomping at the bit to prove that they are the next great heavyweight.

The pick of the bunch in most expert’s eyes is two-time Olympic gold medallist Bakhodir Jalolov.

The towering southpaw from Uzbekistan stands 6ft 7in tall and has a monstrous 81-inch reach.

However, he doesn’t move like a man of his size

Jalolov is light on his feet, possesses blisteringly quick hands and has an elite boxing brain that has paved the way for a glittering amateur career.

Among the mountain of medals in his trophy cabinet are two Olympic golds from Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, two World Championship golds and three Asian Championship golds.

Jalolov also boasts an unblemished 14-0 professional record with every single one of his wins coming inside the distance.

He made his pro debut back in 2018, although his progression has been stunted by his return to the unpaid ranks for two Olympic cycles.

In a move that has stunned the boxing world, Claressa Shields, the undisputed queen of women’s boxing, has set her sights on an unprecedented challenge—taking on Oleksandr Usyk in a historic crossover fight. With her dominance in multiple weight classes, Shields has never shied away from making history, but this time, she’s taking it to an entirely new level. If she manages to pull off the impossible against Usyk, the next target in her sights is none other than the reigning heavyweight king, Tyson Fury.

Shields’ journey to this moment has been nothing short of legendary. As a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a multi-division world champion, she has cleared out every opponent in her path. But in her relentless quest for greatness, she refuses to let traditional weight divisions define her legacy.

“People told me I couldn’t do it when I moved up in weight before,” Shields declared at a packed press conference. “They doubted me when I took over MMA. Now they say I can’t step into the ring with Usyk? Watch me.”

Usyk, the current unified heavyweight champion, known for his masterful footwork and high boxing IQ, responded with bemusement at first but later acknowledged Shields’ incredible skill. “She is one of the greatest fighters of her generation, but heavyweight is a different world,” he said. “If she wants this challenge, she must be ready for real power.”

The fight, already being billed as one of the most ambitious matchups in history, has split the boxing world. Some hail Shields as a fearless pioneer pushing the limits of what’s possible, while others argue that the size and strength difference will be too much to overcome.

But Shields isn’t just looking to fight Usyk—her ambitions go beyond him. If she emerges victorious, she wants Tyson Fury next. The ‘Gypsy King’ laughed when asked about the challenge, calling it “a fun idea but absolutely ridiculous.” Yet, he didn’t entirely dismiss it. “If she somehow beats Usyk, then maybe, just maybe, we talk,” Fury said with a smirk.

Whether or not these fights actually happen, one thing is certain: Claressa Shields has once again forced the world to reconsider what’s possible in combat sports. Will she pull off the greatest shock in boxing history, or is she finally biting off more than she can chew? The world is watching, and Shields wouldn’t have it any other way.

On 18 May 2024, the whole world came to a halt when Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury engaged in one of the best heavyweight bouts of all time. And now, the duo is just a few hours away from facing each other in a world-beater rematch and no one wants to miss this clash.

As the night passes by, the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh is getting more and more star-studded. Celebrities from every industry are in the audience to witness this rematch with Hollywood star Jason Statham also joining the party with his fiance, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. However, it was not a heroic entry as he is used to as the ‘Beekeeper’ got trolled by the fans brutally.

Furthermore, it was not the only question he dodged during his arrival. BBC Sport took to their Instagram to post a clip of Statham’s arrival. In the clip, the interviewer asks the 57-year-old, “Jason, do you think you’d beat The Rock in the ring?” referring to Statham’s ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ co-star Dwayne Johnson. Johnson and Statham have previously appeared together in a few films in the Fast & Furious franchise.

Statham dodged the question and had a dry smile before taking his seat beside His Excellency Turki Alalshikh. DAZN Sports also posted a video of Statham entering the arena on their ‘X.’ However, the clip rubbed some fans the wrong way as they thought that stars like Statham were taking the attention away from Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.

Jason Statham Dodging the awkward question

Statham was immediately surrounded by journalists as he arrived at the Kingdom Arena. An interviewer asked the 57-year-old about his prediction for the match, which stumped him. The star cheekily dodged the question during his arrival but answered it later in a conversation with Sky Sports. He declared that it would be a highly competitive bout, but was unable to predict a winner.

A fan wrote in the comments, “Make it about boxing, not celebrity,” claiming that outside celebrities should not be the focus of such a major event. While the fan had the right intentions, his anger might be misplaced. After all, every single star in the arena is present to watch Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk clash. On this night, no one can steal their spotlight.

Another fan, annoyed by Statham’s dry replies, wrote, “He’s not very cool is he.” According to the fan, the ‘Mechanic’ star should have answered every question directly, rather than making it such a mystery.

Another user took a cheeky dig at Statham and his fiance and wrote, “Lovely he’s brought his daughter to the fight.” It was a visible dig on the 20-year-age gap between Statham and Whiteley.

Amongst the sea of criticism, few fans appreciated the star for attending the event. A fan wrote, “It’s good to be Jason Statham,” claiming that the actor has achieved almost everything in his career. Another user, evidently a big fan of the actor wrote, “Jason Statham my man,” appreciating him for attending the event.

While several fans are trolling Statham, the actor has a genuine passion for boxing and martial arts. He has even trained in several combat sports, including kickboxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and will have the front seat to see Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk going to war. The Boxing Writers Association of America on Monday released the results of its annual awards naming the best fighter, fight, trainer and manager of 2024, as well as several supporting honors.

Lineal, unified and de facto undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who defeated Tyson Fury twice in 2024, was named the BWAA Sugar Ray Robinson Fighter of the Year.

Usyk was also involved in what may be the BWAA’s other most prestigious award, the Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier Fight of the Year, which went to his first meeting with Fury. Usyk battled and defeated Fury over 12 rounds on May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Eddie Futch Trainer of the Year award went to Robert Garcia, who runs his eponymous boxing academy in Oxnard, California. In 2024, Garcia guided emerging pound-for-pound junior bantamweight star Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez and new junior middleweight interim titleholder Vergil Ortiz Jnr, among others, while helping construct the perfect game plan for Jose Valenzuela to upset Isaac Cruz in August.

Egis Klimas was named the BWAA’s Cus D’Amato Manager of the Year. Klimas manages Usyk and Vasiliy Lomachenko, who bounced back from a 2023 defeat to Devin Haney with a win over George Kambosos Jnr to win a lightweight title last May in Kambosos’ native Australia.

Additional BWAA 2024 awards winners include Bruce Silverglade (Good Guy); Marv Albert (Broadcast); Brad Goodman (Meritorious Service); Prichard Colon (Courage in Overcoming Adversity).
