Everything indicates that Canelo Alvarez will face Terence Crawford in September, according to reports from specialized media, although no official source has expressed itself on the matter.

Before that, the Guadalajara fighter would fight in May, but for that date, none of the opponents among the options that have transpired have yet to gain strength.

Canelo Alvarez could face Jake Paul

The names that have been mentioned for Saul Alvarez‘s first fight of the year are William Scull, who even went so far as to say that negotiations would begin on January 10, and Christian Mbili, although the Frenchman with less force.

But as early as Saturday, during the broadcast of the fight between David Benavidez and David Morrell on ESPN for Mexico and Central America, the possibility was mentioned that he could surprise with Jake Paul and now it seems to be a more firm possibility, according to Julius Julianis.

Without confirmation of the hypothetical Canelo Alvarez vs Jake Paul fight, just on Saturday Salvador Rodriguez of ESPN commented that the Mexican could take home about $100 million.

After that fight, there was speculation about the possibility of reconsidering David Benavidez (30-0), as the Mexican’s trainer Eddy Reynoso was present, but now the information is going in the opposite direction with the opportunity to face Paul, who defeated Mike Tyson in November.

In a remarkable achievement that has left the boxing world in awe, Claressa Shields has cemented her place as one of the sport’s greatest athletes with a record-breaking victory that outshines legends such as Oleksandr Usyk, Terence Crawford, and Naoya Inoue. Shields, widely regarded as one of the best female boxers of all time, continues to defy expectations and break new barriers in her illustrious career. Her latest feat is a testament to her unwavering determination, talent, and relentless pursuit of excellence.

The win, which saw Shields surpass the impressive records of these elite male champions, is a monumental moment for both women’s boxing and the sport as a whole. Shields’ ability to dominate in the ring, regardless of gender or competition, underscores the evolving landscape of professional boxing. Historically, boxing has been dominated by male fighters, with names like Usyk, Crawford, and Inoue defining excellence in their respective weight classes. However, Shields has now proven that she not only belongs in the conversation but that she is capable of reaching unprecedented heights.

Her triumph over established champions like Usyk, Crawford, and Inoue is more than just a statistical achievement. It sends a powerful message about the future of the sport. Shields’ victory showcases the breaking down of barriers, as she becomes a beacon of inspiration for future generations of boxers, especially women, who are looking to make their mark on the sport. Her success is also a reminder that excellence in boxing isn’t confined to any one gender, and it pushes the conversation about equality in the sport to the fore front.

As she looks ahead to future bouts, there’s no doubt that Claressa Shields will continue to break new ground and set new records, leaving an indelible mark on the boxing world.

Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KO) got his guy and likely secured a serious bag in the process. According to Ring Magazine, Canelo Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KO) and Crawford have an agreement in place to fight on September 13 at a yet-to-be-determined venue in Las Vegas.

The fight will be contested at 168 pounds and will be for Canelo’s super middleweight titles. Since Crawford began working with Saudi powerbroker Turki Alalshikh, the future Hall-of-Famer has made it clear that he wanted to set up a superfight with the Mexican legend.

Crawford is the reigning WBA junior middleweight champion at 154 pounds, so he will be moving up two weight classes to face a fellow all-time great in one of the biggest boxing matches in the past 10 years.

In Canelo’s last fight, he scored a unanimous decision win over Edgar Berlanga in September 2024. While Canelo has won his last five fights against Berlanga, Jaime Munguia, Jermell Charlo, John Ryder, and Gennady Golovkin, he hasn’t scored a KO win since he stopped Caleb Plant in the 11th round in November 2021.

Crawford remains undefeated, coming off a hard-fought unanimous decision win over Israil Madrimov in November 2024. If Crawford doesn’t take a tune-up fight in May, he will have been out of the ring for nearly a year by the time he fights Canelo.

As 2025 unfolds, the boxing world is bracing for a year that could reshape multiple divisions and redefine legacies.

One of the biggest events on the calendar is set for Feb. 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where “The Last Crescendo” will bring together some of the sport’s most dangerous fighters. The card, featuring seven championship bouts, is headlined by Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in a long-awaited rematch for the undisputed light-heavyweight title.

Daniel Dubois will also put his IBF heavyweight crown on the line against Joseph Parker, a fight that could have massive implications depending on what happens next with Oleksandr Usyk.

With a supercharged start to the year, the following four storylines will define the months ahead.

Oleksandr Usyk to retire?

At 38, Usyk remains at the pinnacle of the heavyweight division, having unified the WBO, WBA and WBC titles with his second victory over Tyson Fury.

However, retirement rumors continue to swirl, particularly with talks of a potential farewell bout against fellow Ukrainian legend Wladimir Klitschko. Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, has suggested that such a historic matchup could serve as the perfect conclusion to his career.

If Usyk does decide to step away, the heavyweight division could undergo a seismic shift. Dubois, currently preparing for his February 22 clash with Parker, would find himself in prime position to seize control of the division. However, should Usyk remain active, a rematch between the two could be inevitable—assuming Dubois gets past Parker first.

Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury: Will it finally happen?

The “Battle of Britain” between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury has been teased for years, yet it remains elusive. Fury’s recent announcement that he is retiring—yet again—has cast fresh doubt over the fight. Promoter Eddie Hearn, however, believes Fury’s claim is a tactical move and is still pushing for a showdown later in the year.

Joshua, meanwhile, is weighing his options for his next fight. If Fury walks away for good, AJ may have to pursue alternative routes to reclaiming the heavyweight throne. But if Fury decides to return, the long-awaited clash could finally become a reality—possibly by summer.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford: A superfight in the making?

Alvarez and Crawford are reportedly finalizing a deal for a blockbuster fight on Mexican Independence Day weekend in Las Vegas. The bout would see Crawford, undefeated in 41 fights and already a two-weight undisputed champion, move up two weight classes to challenge Canelo at super middleweight.

Despite the size difference, Crawford’s team remains confident. Trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre believes his fighter’s superior ring IQ and adaptability will make him a real threat to Alvarez. If the fight is finalized, it would be one of the most intriguing stylistic matchups of the year.

Before a potential showdown with Crawford, Alvarez is expected to take another fight in May, as is tradition. His longtime trainer and manager, Eddy Reynoso, has identified IBF super middleweight champion William Scull and top-ranked contender Christian Mbilli as the frontrunners for that bout.

Wladimir Klitschko to come out of retirement?

At nearly 49 years old, former heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko is rumored to be contemplating a return to the ring. If he follows through, he could attempt to surpass George Foreman as the oldest heavyweight champion in history.

The biggest potential fight on the table for Klitschko is undoubtedly a showdown with Usyk, creating an all-Ukrainian clash between the country’s most celebrated boxing icons. However, Klitschko has also emphasized his commitment to Ukraine amid the ongoing war, making his return to boxing anything but certain.

The sheer thought of Gervonta Davis considering retirement in his prime might have soured the taste for many. But the contemplation has yet to overshadow the excitement surrounding a ‘Tank’ fight. As one of boxing’s biggest draws, Davis remains a bankable figure in the sport. However, given the kind of reactions his recent training footage attracted, one can’t be blamed for turning skeptical about such notions.

Gervonta Davis snacking on speed

Sounding disappointed, this fan said, “Hand speed slow; I shouldn’t be able to see them punches like this. I see Shakur piecing him up, tbh.” Yes, ‘Tank’s punches are visible; however, to equate it with Shakur Stevenson‘s speed might prove futile. Depending upon the kind of opponent they’re about to face, fighters often alter their training approach.

Stevenson remained a benchmark for the next one as well. “Shakur got better hand speed, wdc,” they said. There are still a few weeks left for the fight. So does a thirteen-second clip warrant such hasty conclusions?

For the next one, though, ‘Tank’s speed hardly mattered. They said, “For the opponent he’s fight who gives a f**k lol.” Lamont Roach Jr. climbed up a division to face Gervonta Davis. Many rate him a technically gifted boxer. However, he has not yet faced an opponent of the Baltimorean’s caliber. Needless to say, Davis remains the heavy favorite to win.

Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford have reached a tentative agreement for a September fight, according to The Ring’s Keith Idec.

The two are expected to face off this fall in Las Vegas, with the venue and specific date still up in the air.
